On November 6 1954 at Nometņu street 62 first TV broadcast in the Baltic States. The Latvian soviet movie Back home with victory was shown. It was viewed by the limited audience trough the KVN-49 tv sets. Year later TV and Radio Tower was built in Nometņu iela 62. On 1958 the main news program Panorāma started to broadcast and still broadcasts today. TV transmitters was built all around the country. On 1974 first full color broadcast appeared. On 1986 at Zaķusala Island in Riga a new modern TV complex was established with the TV tower of 368 m the highest in the European Union. On 1991 during the August coup the TV center was stormed by the OMON special forces silencing the broadcasts. After regaining independence the television was named LTV - The Latvian Television. It has two main channels LTV1 and LTV7. On 2010 Latvian Television became completely digital turning off the analog signal. LTV1 focuses on information, culture and entertainment. LTV7 focuses on sports live coverage, entertainment and information in the Russian language. Latvia also has private TV companies - LNT, TV3.TV5,TV6,Regional TV, Riga 24 and the First Baltic Chanel.
