On October 31, Dr. Amit Roy met with the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Benin, Jos van Aggelen, to discuss IFDCs implementation of a new project in the country. An English translation of the shared post is below: On October 31, the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Benin, Jos van Aggelen, met with Dr. Amit H. Roy, President and Chief Executive Director of the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC). IFDC has won the contract for the program Communal Approach to Strengthening the Agricultural Market in Benin with funding from the Netherlands. The Ambassador and Dr. Roy shared their perspectives on the development of agriculture in Benin, the issue of inputs, the cotton sector and the private sector’s involvement in the revival of the agricultural sector in Benin. Particular attention has been paid to the potential of the nearby Nigerian market, regional market integration and experiences of IFDC in the implementation of agricultural business centers across the border that could serve as examples for Benin. The Ambassador and Dr. Roy have agreed on the importance of a close partnership between IFDC and the Embassy of the Netherlands, in close consultation with technical and financial partners and Benin stakeholders for the future of agriculture in the country.
