On October 5th the Highlands Foundation, with the support of The Rotary Club of St Kilda, will run a Mother and Baby pack making working bee at St Kilda Lawn Bowls club. Venue: at The Hall at St Kilda Sports Club 66 Fitzroy Street St Kilda, Time: 9am to 3.30pm Come for the whole day or choose a shift 9am - 12.30pm 12.30pm - 3.30pm Lunch will be provided for volunteers. So please let us know if you are coming for catering. Items needed: Face washers Towels Ladies undies size 12 to 18 or a one size fits all panties that will hold sanitary pads in place New Born outfit Singlets Cloth Nappies Snibs or Pilchers Warm baby wraps The Highlands Foundation has been providing equipment and training for healthcare centres in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea since 2004. In Papua New Guinea, many women birth alone with no medical assistance. The Mother and Baby packs are an incentive for women to attend hospital for antenatal clinics, education, and for the birth of their baby. This project has been instrumental in reducing infant pneumonia and other illnesses by improving hygiene and providing warmth. St Kilda Mums collects cloth nappies and contributes baby clothing to this really important project.
