On Saturday 8 March Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, disappeared from air traffic controllers screens shortly after take-off from Kuala Lumpur airport on a six-hour flight to Beijing, China. There were 239 people on board. On 17 March after discussions between the Prime Ministers of Australia and Malaysia AMSA took charge of the search for MH370 in the Southern Indian Ocean. Over the next two and a half weeks AMSA coordinated a search of more than 4.6 million square kilometres of the Southern Indian Ocean in an attempt to locate any debris from the aircraft. This search included 29 aircraft from 7 countries flying over 3000 hours of aerial search while 14 ships from 3 countries scoured the ocean surface. During the period AMSA was the lead agency, a large amount of public information in the form of press conferences, media releases, images, charts, video, audio files and social media posts was released. Given the historical significance of the search for MH370, and the continued public interest, this information has been consolidated into an online timeline which will remain on AMSAs website as an historical resource. You can view the timeline here. amsa.gov.au/media/mh370-timeline/
