On Saturday, August 16, 2014, seven members of Team Urbanna competed at the Cocktail Class Wooden Boat Racing Association (CCWBRA) National Championship Races at the Rock Hall Yacht Club in Maryland. There were 32 boats and 54 drivers competing in 8 different competitions (some racers participate in more than one event). Team Urbanna brought home four cups including a National Championship win by Chris Riddick in the 8HP competition. Also bringing home cups were Ian Millington with a 2nd place win in the 6HP Mixed and Shannon Haley with a 3rd place win in the Womens 6 HP competition along with a youth win by Caroline Fuccella. Participating from team Urbanna were: #133 Skittles Owner/Racer: Morgan Friday and Racer: Marie Schacht; #1776 The Virginia Gentleman Owner/Racer: Ian Millington, Racer: Kenleighe Longest; #101 Brass Monkey Owner/Racer: Lawrence Fuccella, Racer: Caroline Fuccella (youth); #73 The Urbanna Oyster Shooter Owner/Racer: Chris Riddick and #666 Pickled Tink Owner: Alana Courtney, Racer: Shannon Haley. Like recent races, the 8HP event was the most action packed for Team Urbanna. Lawrence Fuccella was leading the pack in qualifying heats in his boat, Brass Monkey, and was positioned well to take home the top prize. Suddenly his boat hit a wake and he flipped the boat stopping the race momentarily and taking him out of contention. Luckily he was not injured. Meanwhile, Chris Riddick was preparing The Urbanna Oyster Shooter for the next heat of the same race. After discovering engine issues, Chris was prepared to scratch himself from the roster. Lawrence then graciously offered the Brass Monkey to his teammate for Chris to compete. Chris piloted the Brass Monkey through the qualifying heat and took the top prize in the final competition. Another highlight of the day was having Urbannas own, Eric Faudree, emcee the entire event. Eric did such a wonderful job at the Urbanna Cup that the CCWBRA asked if he would help out at the national race. Once again, Eric captured the crowd with his magnifying voice and entertaining commentary.
