On Saturday, July 27 at 0900 hrs eight Terrace SAR members revisited the Khtada River area to continue search efforts for Jonathan Knight. Knight was reported missing on My 8, Investigation revealed that Knight had purchased a small 7 foot Zodiac style inflatable boat and had planned on attending a cabin in the Khatada Lake / Davis Lake area. Four ground SAR and 2 swift water technicians hiked 2.5 km along the trail to the top of Khtada Falls.; The swift water team walked the 2.5 km in dry suits wearing their lifejackets. They carried communications and any gear they needed for the search. The objective of the search was to check the stream area and adjacent river bank for any sign of Jonathan Knight. The 2 swift water technicians (SRT’s) search the pools, logjams, and other in-stream locations. Most of the area was searchable; however, some of the steeper sections with water flowing over large boulders could not be searched at this time. From the top of the falls the ground team members search adjacent to the River - on River Right ( North-East side). The team looked for any sign that a human has passed this way recently. We knew Knight was a smoker, so some of the evidence we were looking for was cigarette butts. The ground and water team searched from the top of the falls to the mouth of Khtada River where it flows into the Skeena. Three additional team members in the SAR jet boat searched along the Skeena River from Khtada River to below Scotia Creek Camp revisiting Scotia Creek Camp. Despite the extensive search effort the teams found no evidence to indicate that Jonathan Knight was in the area. The Prince Rupert RCMP are requesting the public’s assistance in locating Mr. Knight. If you have any knowledge of Jonathan Knight’s disappearance or his current whereabouts, please call 911 or the local Detachment at 250-627-0700.
