On Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 7:00 pm I placed a call to Dr. Rusty Hall DVM, attending veterinarian for Riceland Veterinary Clinic in Nome, Tx regarding a yearling colt that was down and showing signs of choke as well as colic. I reached Dr. Hall on his cellular phone which was the large animal emergency number provided on his clinics answering machine. I explained our situation to Dr. Hall, as well as our colts current condition and vitals. I told Dr. Hall that we had made attempts to contact our normal veterinarian, but had not been able to reach anyone prior to him. I was then asked who my normal veterinarian was, to be asked why I couldnt call that damn boy who works with our vet. I explained that we had, in fact, called that veterinarian as well but he was not available and had yet to return our call. Dr. Hall then went on to tell me, in no kind terms, that those vets are GD hypocrites, they are no good bastards. If they cannot attend to their own GD emergencies I needed a new vet. I explained again that we were in the midst of a fairly extreme case of choke/colic and really needed the assistance of ANY veterinarian. I was then told I have been working since 5 am, and I dont have time for your shit, little girl. I have to be up early to show pigs tomorrow. At this point I disconnected the call. At 7:23pm I was able to contact our usual veterinarian who instructed me by phone on how to help our colt until help could arrive. As a equine professional, I find it quite horrifying that a licensed veterinarian would choose to treat a horse, who was in a fairly critical state, the way that Dr. Hall chose to treat our colt. Dr. Eric Mettauer, of Equine Medicine and Surgery, was able to assist us in stabilizing Dirtys condition over the phone and made additional calls throughout the night to further monitor his condition. If you, or anyone you know, are in need of a equine veterinarian in an emergency situation I DO NOT RECOMMEND Dr. Rusty Hall of Riceland Veterinary Clinic. Our complaints have been filed with the Texas State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.
