On Saturday October 5th, 2013 at approximately 3:30 a.m. a 2009 Toyota Corolla/ Matrix painted in Magnetic Grey, was traveling south on Garth Street in the curb lane. This vehicle lost control and mounted the curb south of Sanatorium Rd. and struck three of four teenage pedestrians traveling in the same direction on the sidewalk. One male victim suffered severe injuries to his legs and body; he had been riding a long board (skateboard) beside his friends when he was struck from behind. The impact to the vehicle caused damage to the front passenger side as well as tearing off the passenger side mirror assembly which remains a police exhibit. The suspect vehicle fled the scene and was last seen westbound on Mohawk Road West. The Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit was assigned the investigation on October 7th, 2013. On January 28th, 2014 as a result of new information along with the assistance of Crime Stoppers Hamilton the Collision Reconstruction Unit was able to recover the suspect vehicle, and make the arrest of Lorena CANJURA (26 yrs) of Hamilton. Charges are Criminal Code Fail to Remain-Cause Bodily Harm and Criminal Code Fail to Remain X2.
