On Saturday, Springfield Post 176 lost its first game of the season in a well played and closely contested game to Centreville Post 1995, by a score of 2-1. Greg Zajic (recent R.E. Lee H.S. graduate) took the loss going 8 innings, allowing 6 hits, while striking out 9. Post 176 scored its only run of the game in the first inning, while Post 1995 tied the game in the bottom of the 5th inning, before scoring the go-ahead and winning run in the bottom of the 8th inning. Post 176 failed to score in the 9th. Cole Gould (graduate, West Springfield H.S.) and Robert Sutton (graduate, R.E. Lee H.S.) had two hits apiece, as part of the team’s 6-hit total. In Sunday’s game, Post 176 bounced back and defeated Arlington Post 130 by an 8-3 score. Cole Gould got his second win of the season, giving up 6 hits over 7-innings, while striking out 5 and allowing 3 walks. Cooper Sharp (graduate, West Springfield H.S.) pitched the last two innings. Post 176 collected 12 hits in the game and were led by Donny Haeuptle who hit a homerun, along with another hit, and had 2-rbis. Second baseman Danny Gordon, Shortstop Taylor Boyd, designated hitter Frank Sturek, and right field Mickey Stebick each contributed two hits apiece as part of the 12-hit attack. Springfield Post 176’s record stands at 6 wins and 1 loss. The next Post 176 game is on Tuesday, June 18, at R.E. Lee HS at 7 PM against Post 1976, and the game on Thursday, June 20 is also at Lee H.S., against Post 130.
