On Saturday, my family and I will be traveling to West Virginia - TopicsExpress

On Saturday, my family and I will be traveling to West Virginia University to watch our daughter and her friends in the Pride of West Virginia Marching Band perform their Salute to the Military. Apparently, during each service song, veterans of that service are invited to stand in recognition. I will be standing when the caissons start rolling along. I will not be standing because I want everyone to thank me for my service. My service, while very important to me, was likely not important in history. I did not go to war, nor did I do much aside from going to school. Circumstances were that my service was very short. I will be standing on Saturday because I am damn proud to have served. I will also be standing to give a different face to veterans. Many people without military in their families think of veterans as 70 year old men. The sacrifices many of those veterans made is vastly more important than mine, and I wouldnt dream of comparing my service to theirs. My husbands service was far more important than my own. I dont want to diminish anyones service. I simply want everyone to see that there are veterans from all walks of life, and sometimes, even someone like a band mom just might be a veteran.
