On Scandal, Literature and Art ~ The Tarot of Klimt The Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt (1862 – 1918) is a household name across Europe. His unashamedly erotic images, for which the primary subject was the female form, can be widely seen in prints on popular posters, household goods and wall tiles. His painting entitled The Kiss, is regarded as iconic and his portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer sold for $135 million in 2006. He was one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Secession Movement and was heavily influenced by styles as diverse as classical Greek and Minoan art, through to the Japanese Ukiyo-e style. He cleverly combined both life-like and graphic techniques, in the years immediately prior to the Weimar culture period and the Bauhaus Movement in Germany (1918-1933). Klimt’s dream-like portrayals were the perfect inspirational style for the Golden Tarot of Klimt, a sumptuous set of tarot depictions, created by A. Atanassov in 2005. The delicious images are designed to aid meditation and to trigger astral projection, the intricate images conjuring up ideas of other realms and dimensions. Each card enjoys a black border and luscious gold stamping, thus emphasising the Klimt style. Some of the cards are a direct reference to Klimt originals; others are inspired by his general style and themes. Fycsene Shields. Illustrations: Moon, Justice and Strength ~ A .Atanassov (2005)
