On Sunday, I made the foolish mistake of going on a solo adventure without informing anyone of my plans. I went mountain biking near Nederland and got lost in the woods on a complex network of trails with which I was unfamiliar, with no map, a dying cell phone and minimal clothing. My optimistic opinion of being lost is that if youre following a trail, youre not truly lost. Nonetheless, the sun was setting, the temperature was dropping, and I was riding in circles. It was a spontaneous decision, so I didnt think to tell anyone where I was going, since I ride by myself all the time without telling anyone. I used the setting sun and elevation to navigate my way back to my car before dark, uninjured, and only a little spooked. So if you ever get a random text from me informing you of my outdoor plans, Im only trying to be a little safer than I was this weekend :) At least I got some cool pictures and found some great trails! Next time Ill just have a better Idea of where I am!
