On Sunday September 29th, members of our local traveled to Dover Delaware for a National Fallen Firefighters Fundraiser. The tickets purchased for the AAA 400 NASCAR race also included a pre-race hospitality tent to help support the NFFF. The hospitality tent included food, drinks, door prizes, vendor give aways, and items to be purchased to support the charity. Our members were also treated to an "on track" tour where they were able to walk the track at the start/finish line. During lunch, NASCAR Driver Jamie McMurray came to talk to the firefighters and answer Q&A. He also presented the NFFF with a $10,000 check. Many wives of recent fallen firefighters were in attendance and spoke on the importance of this charity. Members in attendance were Deputy Chief James Johnson and his son Jake, Captain Bert Rankin, Firefighter John Heffernan, Firefighter J.R. Shultz, Firefighter Mike McKenzie and his son Michael, and Firefighter Andrew Hunger. The members had a great time and this is believed to be the first of many trips to support this event. The photo album is in the photo section of our facebook page.
