On Sunday, the Tawergha Town Council announced the delay of their plans to return home on Tuesday 25th due to the threat looming from Misratans. However, reports have suggested citizens of the town are going forth with the plan, despite being warned otherwise. Prime Minister Ali Zeidan and the Grand Mufti Sheikh Sadeq Al-Ghariani told the residents, who have been Internally Displaced Persons since the 2011 revolution, to keep their plans at bay until safety is guaranteed. However, the government have been heavily criticised for advising Tawerghans to delay their plans, yet not creating any alternative or improving the less-than-acceptable conditions they have been living in for the past two years. IDP’s from Tawergha are believed to be carrying olive branches, a sign of peace, in a brave attempt to return to their homes, regardless of the dangers that may face them on the road ahead. In a press conference on Monday, the President of the Tawergha Town Council, Abdel Rahman Mahmoud, announced the delay but urged the General National Congress to offer a solution to the crisis to avoid further delays. Since the 2011 revolution, virtually no Tawerghans have returned to their home town.
