On The Southside, we firmly believe in Paying it Forward and People Helping People and supporting our LOCAL businesses. For those of you who dont know me, I am also the owner of a 501c3 charity organization called Shirleys Way. ShirleysWay . We helped a lady pay her rent this month and she saw one of our sponsors on our website was Pic Pac. She shared this story with me and I want to share it with you. Many of us know the owners of Pic Pac but I have removed his name so he doesnt get overwhelmed with requests. This is Truly People Helping People and I hope everyone here shops Pic Pac this week and buys everything they have off their shelves. Enjoy this. She is battling Cancer and does not have much money for food. Story Every once in a while, not often, someone does something that truly humbles me and restores my faith in humanity. I went to the grocery this afternoon to pick up some items because, quite frankly, the cupboards were pretty bare. I have to be very careful and budget my grocery expenses and have a maximum limit that I can spend. I also had three prescriptions to pick up and I wasnt entirely certain how much they would cost, so I had that in the back of my mind as well. While I was checking out and unloading my cart, I glanced at the running total and realized that I had gone over budget and there were quite a few items still left to ring up, so I told the cashier that I was going to have to have him take some of the items off my order because I had exceeded my limit. I removed the most expensive items, which included all of the fresh meat, cheese, peanut butter, etc., and got my total back into budget range. I felt so embarrassed and was apologizing to both the cashier and the other customers behind me in line because I was holding everyone up. I swiped my card to pay the total and while I was entering my PIN and such, I saw the cashier take the items that I returned and place them in my cart. I said to him, Those arent mine. They are the items I had to return. He said, Its okay, go ahead and take them. I have it covered. I told him, Sir, I certainly appreciate the gesture but you would surely get into trouble and probably lose your job. I cant accept these with a clear conscience. He said, Its okay. I am the owner. Well, it was another of those very rare moments when I am left absolutely speechless. All I could do through the huge lump in my throat was squeak out a barely discernible Thank you. I wheeled the cart to my car and unloaded the groceries. I took the cart back inside, still having some reservations that this cashier truly was the owner. He was no longer at his register, so I asked the lady running the other register his name. She said, Thats J.. M.....ll. Hes the owner. I was at M.....lls Pic Pac on Eastern Parkway. I thanked the cashier and kept my composure until I got in my car. I had to sit there a few minutes and thank the Lord for all of the wonderful blessings He has bestowed upon me this past week. I will never be a good enough child of God to deserve all of the love and blessings He showers upon me, but I certainly am thankful that even through all of my many imperfections, I am still loved.
