Little boy was designed to air burst at a strategic height to maximise its destructive effect. Some 70,000 people died directly with some tens of thousands dying in subsequent years from burns and radiation poisoning 1881 Alexander Fleming Scottish biologist was born (He was ahead of his time in many ways and wrote several papers on medical practices that did not come into use until years later. Most famous for his discovery of the enzyme Lysozyme in 1923 and his work in the discovery of antibiotic substance Penicillin from the mould Penicillin Notatum in 1928 for whish he shared a Nobel Prize with Howard Florey and Ernst Boris Chain) 1890 William Kemmler American murderer died (He died in Auburn Prison New York. he was the first person to be executed using an Electric Chair. He was electrocuted with a shock of two thousand volts for seventeen seconds which rendered him unconscious but did not kill him his blood vessels ruptured through his skin an bled and huge blisters appeared at the points of electrical contact. He was given a further shock but it took a total of eight minutes for him to die)
