On Thursday 31 October members of Unite, UCU and UNISON working in higher education will take strike action at universities across the UK. 150 locations - hundreds of workers standing up for fair pay. For the past five years workers in the countrys top higher education institutions have suffered a sustained attack on their pay. Since 2008, below inflation pay rises have led to staff suffering a 13 per cent pay cut in real terms, while the cost of living continues to soar. Last years one per cent pay offer cost our members dear; 97 per cent of manual staff and 90 per cent of clerical staff lost £311, while 72 per cent of managerial, professional and technical staff lost £417. Unite is calling on every member not to go into work and to join a picket line on the day. Its time to show the employers how serious and united we are in taking action. We are standing together for fair pay! Spread the word and speak to your colleagues about why striking for fair pay matters.
