On Thursday morning the community lost an amazing young man, 21 year old Dylan S to depression, he was a son, a brother, a best friend and a hero to many, the following day on Friday we lost another local young lad 18 year old Drew F to also depression. I know we have the resources in this town when it comes to mental illness, but do you ever hear where to go if you need help? No, because Mental illness is seen as an invisible illness, but it is REAL and as devastating as any other illness. We need Recognize mental illness as a visible disease to prevent further losses, Because Losing 2 young men in 1 day of each other is not supposed to happen, this town has had way to many suicide attempts and suicides, the young and old, but specifically the young. Please Penticton, lets stop talking about what restaurants we need, or what time store hours should be open till for now, because we really need to focus on the important things right now like raising awareness to mental health to save these poor people from taking there lives to soon, when there are resources out there, but can not be found in time. I as part of the young community being born and raised in Penticton want the support of our elders to help us raise awareness. We need your help Penticton, and you need us because we are your future. Please Speak up, No more hiding anymore! Mental Illness is real, it is visible and we can prevent it if more of us Speak up!
