On Todays Episode of Cat Drama: It never ceases to befuddle me at the lengths to which my former ferals will go to make my domestics look bad. I got Loki as a kitten. He was all of maybe 3 months old, if even that. He grew up socialized and coddled. Same deal with Vlad. Admittedly, prior to TARDIS showing up in my yard and the subsequent arrival of her brothers, I hadnt the faintest clue about managing ferals. Everything I know about ferals was either studying the available literature or direct experience from working with TARDIS, Thor & Shadow. And if theres no direct experience, well, one tends to fall back on what the literature says. Well, the literature says that most ferals after 3-4 months old wont 100% socialize, so dont expect them to act like theyve been house kitties all their life. Dont have unrealistic expectations. Got it. Naturally, Ive been more cautious about cat maintenance tasks, like brushing, baths, nail trims,etc. with TARDIS & Thor than with Loki & Vlad. But time after time, TARDIS & Thor have been FAR better behaved about it that my other 2 furbabies. Loki had worms a while back and he had to take pills. The chaos that ensued from trying to pill Loki had never been seen before nor since. IM still traumatized from trying to cram those pills down his gob, never mind HIM! So, that brings us to today. TARDIS health has been worrisome and I put her on a special diet. Her special diet can cause constipation, so I gave all the cats some canned pumpkin in their food, since the other cats scrounge off TARDIS food when shes finished eating. Well, I found a couple roundworms in her litter box a few days ago and Thor pulled off a spectacular butt-scooting display, so they both got de-worming pills ordered. The pills came today. And guess what happened? NOT A DAMN THING. Both TARDIS & Thor swallowed their pills like it was no big thing and happily nommed cat tuna afterward. I have NEVER, in all my decades of having cats, had a pair of cats that easy to pill and these were supposed feral cats, of whom it is said will retain streaks of feral-ness. Indeed.
