On Wednesday, I received the results of a genetic test from my doctor in Indianapolis that helped to give us some answers to my medical complexities. The test showed I have genetic abnormalities which points to a mitochondrial genetic disorder. As I understood my doctor to explain, the cells in my body are not able to use the fuel or energy it receives from nutrition correctly to do its intended job, no matter which system it is working in. In my body, my gastrointestinal system (gastroparesis and slow intestinal digestion), and my autonomic nervous system (inner ear balance problems/vertigo, stability in blood pressure, and syncope episodes) is affected. Although there is no cure for mitochondrial genetic disorders, the lab that performed the test was very interested in my abnormalities and will be using my DNA and medical history for further research. Their new research may give further insight in better helping to control my symptoms. Todd and I may be surprised by the results, but our Heavenly Father was not. Psalm 139:14 says, I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. I may have hoped and prayed for something fixable but am thankful for a Sovereign and loving God Who knows what is best for me. Please continue to pray for stability with my different disorders and peace that passes the understanding of test results.
