On Wednesday Im heading back to the devastated city of Tanauan, - TopicsExpress

On Wednesday Im heading back to the devastated city of Tanauan, Leyte with a team of medics, midwives and the rest of us unskilled laborers. I just came across an article in which it says people, especially kids, dont have clean water, food or the medicines they need in the area (youd think with $350M in aid they could at least figure out the clean water). 800,000 pregnant and nursing women in the area are getting inadequate care. To be honest, it breaks my heart. Im not really looking forward to going back. It feels more like a military deployment than a fun missions trip (I was excited to get there the first time...little did I know...) but I know it is the right thing to do. This is why I came to the Philippines...when I first saw little kids going to sleep on the sidewalk on cardboard I knew that I had to help in some small way...this is not really any different. As hard as it is...I am thankful for the opportunity to serve my fellow human beings in trying to make this world a little better place. I am also thankful for the people who are praying, talking about the situation, and giving financially. We couldnt do anything without your help. We do our best to ensure all the money that is given goes straight to the people who need it most. This time, we have a van that will be overflowing with supplies...and we are going to fly (no complaints here, as much fun as the 36 hour drive each way was last time) in and set up as much as we can before the van arrives. Mercy in Action will be setting up hospital tents to help pregnant women deliver their babies and provide medical care. Im also going to be working with the government as best I can to identify orphaned children that fit our profile so that we can help them. Once again, your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.
