On World Environment Day, the least the government can do is to honour our tribals by felicitating them in Bhubaneswar at the state level function since they lead a near perfect sustainable lifestyle which rarely impacts the environment. If we go by the slogan this year ..Think.Eat .Save.... the only people who live by this are our tribal friends ! Ofcourse we do not acknowledge this ! They eat local food normally grown by themselves and not flown or trucked thousands of miles by fuel guzzling climate change causing aircraft and trucks. They eat unprocessed food (good for the body) thereby saving precious energy which is consumed to process them and pack them in attractive boxes, packets, etc. They eat when hungry unlike us when we eat while watching TV/games or to oblige hosts at social events. They do not eat off season stuff like us ....cauliflowers are now sold in summer in Odisha though everyone knows we get them only in winter! Many friends will turn back in anger and ask whether I am suggesting that we go back to the jungles and live like savages ! Definitely not ! I would urge my friends to go local, promote desi and prefer unprocessed foods and avoid waste. Take only what you can eat on your plate and do not dump uneaten food which unfortunately is a common sight at most parties in the twin Cities.
