On a different note, I finally watched THE NORMAL HEART on HBO - TopicsExpress

On a different note, I finally watched THE NORMAL HEART on HBO this evening - some amazing performances and wonderful filmmaking. I had the great fortune to be general manager of an Off-Broadway revival almost exactly 10 years ago, and I was reminded so fondly of our TNH family: Richard Bekins, Fred Berman, McCaleb Burnett, Mark Dobies, Raul Esparza, Joanna Gleason, Lisa Kron, Jay Russell, Billy Warlock and Paul Whitthorne on stage, plus Carol Fineman and Vern T. Calhoun producing, with David Esbjornson (eventually) directing and the amazing design team of Eugene Lee, Jess Goldstein, Ken Billington and Tony Meola, plus Thomas Gates and Ali Miller running things backstage. What a group! It was a crazy ride and an incredibly abrupt closing, but I would do it again in a heartbeat. We saw this play transform from its origins as political rant to a tragedy where we knew how it ended, and yet with the same fervor, love and passion which has always been on the page. Im hard-pressed to think of another individual with whom Ive worked - or even met - that had such a profound effect on life in the 20th century (and beyond). We always say that one person can make a difference, and in my eyes, Larry Kramer actually changed the world. He is everything youve heard and more (and I have the emails to prove it), but I cherish the opportunity to have worked so closely on this piece with him. Heres to all the 2004 gang, to memories sweet & bitter and (for me) to one of the great experiences of my theatrical career. Love to you all.
