On a light note,I wish to bring to the attention of the Members of the County Assembly of Mandera about the following issues and urge them to pass legislations to that effect: 1.There is a serious environmental degradation in our county through massive destructions of small hills by businessmen. The scenic hills in and around Dabacity and Garsesala hamlets of Mandera South constituency are disappearing slowly. What once formed the beautiful topography are now shallow dungeons of quarries, risks to human lives and animals alike. The hills are destroyed to get fine stones for construction purposes. Now before the marauding businessmen set camps on the tors of Takaba in Mandera West or on the buttes of Sala and Arabia, our MCAs should take legislative measures to control the menace. 2.The aim of the massive resources being channeled to our county is for its development and prosperity through investment and local economic input. There are people given huge sums of money through contracts and tenders but unfortunately none of them invest in local economies. For instance,if a person wins a contract of Ksh 50M to construct lets say an abattoir,he or she construct the said structure and lives the County with a cool cash of that amount only to invest in Nairobi,Nakuru,Kisumu or Mombasa, leaving our county poor.So on this,I urge our MCAs to legislate on laws that will compel those people to invest at least some percentage of their income in the local county economy. For example,if someone wins a tender of Ksh 300M,there should a law to compel him to invest at least Ksh 30M in Mandera. This can add value to our economy through industries such as hospitality, tourism, manufacturing, education and medical fields and this means boom in business activities thus creating employment and income for the county through taxes. Thanks
