On a sad tone I went to the cluster fairs with students, initiating a program that I value and respect most in improving students performance (attitude) towards maths and science subjects (core subjects-BEC). They performed well at cluster level and Regional level. Even though I was surrounded by hick-ups from the administration, I worked hard because I know hard-working pays. Today (02/07/2013) I am completely disappointed because I have been working hard in helping students to pursue science concepts and process- thus using learner centered strategies in facilitating learning- through students researches and projects- models. Thus giving them steps of scientific investigations as they are aspiring scientists. So I was prepared to go with them to the nationals of maths and science fairs- they are representing our school, Cluster, Region- Central , unfortunately I was turned down- I went home carrying my bags- luggage- with a low morale. Blaming myself for facilitating learning in a most effective and efficient way- as some says; I see I remember , I hear I forget and I do I understand. They went this morning to the University of Botswana to take part not competing as their projects are incomplete and the brain tank is left behind- that’s me. As a parent, a teacher- facilitator to the learners, I wished them a safe journey and best performance with tears dripping knowing exactly that they are going to be faced with difficult situation as their projects are incomplete and again someone accompanying them was taken unprepared but forced to replace the master mind – that’s me. The reason behind the punishment- whip from the management is – I have failed to enter marks into the computer for analysis as marks are to be submitted on the 04/07/13. Honestly speaking is not a failure to enter marks rather a delay because I was on leave for a period of four working days and my workload – classes are more than the rest in school so when deadlines are set. The fact that my workload and theirs is not the same is always left behind.
