On behalf of Gary Silliker, while he is off grid working in South Sudan with UNICEF: 17 Jul 44: Two Miramichi men would die on this day during WW II. RCAF Pilot Officer Frederick Edward McDonald was the son of Wesley E. McDonald and Isabel M. McDonald, of South Nelson and served with 79 Squadron RAF. He piloted a Hurricane fighter aircraft and was killed on this day in India. While on a low level pass, during training, the wing of his Hurricane struck the ground and the aircraft crashed. Twenty-one year old PO McDonald is buried in the Ranchi War Cemetery, India. Sgt Robert Bob Wesley Davidson was from Burnt Church and served in the North Shore Regiment during WW II. He died of his wounds on this day in 1944. Sgt Davidson is buried in the Calais Canadian War Cemetery, France. Lest we Forget.
