On behalf of my family, I would like to personally thank a number of folks who have been by our side in the past few months concerning the destruction of my grandparents home. To all the men and women of the Hyden and Thousandsticks Volunteer Fire Departments, you will never know how much your presence meant to us last evening. We knew from the beginning everything would be in good hands and I do not believe it could have gone any better. You even managed to save a wonderful tree. Thanks to Bill Baker and the City of Hyden for providing a presence that ensured no one would get hurt. Al Collett-you have been a wonderful friend to us in this whole process. Tim Helton-we so appreciate you standing with Dad through most of the evening. He cherishes your friendship along with that of your family. To our many friends and neighbors who have been so worried throughout the process, thanks for your thoughts. As most of you know, the home was actually two houses which had been placed together for many years. Dad believes the houses were built pre-1940s. It is hard to believe that Granny Elva has been gone 10 years and Grandpa Hayes passed away 7 years ago, but time had taken its toll on the interior of the home. Despite our best efforts, and even the consulting of the best of experts, the home could not be saved. So amidst a few tears and a lot of smiles of memories gone by, the destruction of the home was completed last evening. While the home will be missed, the memories of the good times we shared there with our grandparents will remain forever in our hearts. Ulene Lewis Melissa Sparks
