On behalf of the Unitarian Universalist Association, the Rev. Peter Morales, president of the UUA, issued the following statement of support for sanctuary efforts in Tucson: Our places of worship are often times also places of sanctuary for those seeking refuge from discrimination, persecution, and harm. The Unitarian Universalist Association applauds Southside Presbyterian Church for providing safety and security in a time of uncertainty for this family. Families should always be allowed to stay together regardless of citizen status. I am proud of the outstanding immigration justice work of our congregations, in partnership with the interfaith community, in southern Arizona. I am especially proud of their efforts to keep families together while our government fails in its responsibility to change our broken immigration system. As a nation of immigrants, we must stand on the side of love with immigrant families. As a religious community, we cannot ignore the moral call to help those who are suffering. And as citizens of the world, we must respect the inherent worth and dignity of all. Thank you, Rev. Peter Morales.
