On everything I love and know the explosion of videos showing police officers doing these unjust acts in the black community might be a new viral thing but it is not a new community thing. Huey P. Newton and the Black Panther Party would observe the police while quoting the laws they were breaking. Today we can video the police and play back the laws they are breaking. This allows people to see what blacks in America still have to go through to make it down the street. I saw a video of a white kid give the cops the middle finger while riding with his mother. The cops pulled them over but just gave the kid a lecture on respect while the kid was still saying he hates cops and other things as the officer talked. Seeing that makes me ask what if? What if that was a black teen? While I share Martin Luther Kings dream and try my best to raise my kids to see that dream too, I still have to teach my kids the rules for driving while black. Not all cops are like this. I have had white cops that have went above and beyond their job to help my wife. I have had run in with black cops that made my blood boil. Wrong is yes wrong. But why must it be the darker shade that goes through the fire. Why must those of brown skin deal with such acts. I know there are many races, genders, etc that have had their trials with the world. I know reverse racism is even felt. But it hurts to raise my children with that type of burden. But I must say I still see brighter days ahead. I might be old and on my death bed by the time it comes or I might be dead for many moons. But I do believe there will continue to be progress for a continuous better tomorrow. We have to keep pushing forward. We have to continue to teach our children to not be scared to live. We have to teach ourselves that we can not be held back. In order for there to be continuous change it will take all sides of the color line to want to keep pushing for changes. Weve come a mighty long way. We still have work to do.
