On my regular business tripe to Pakistan I visited 3 power stations . This is my assessment of the situation in terms of power stations. The Places I visited were: Thermal Power Station Guddu Muzaffer Ghar Thermal Power Station Mangla Hydro Power Station Guddu Thermal Power Station Guddu Thermal Power station is one of the biggest power station belted on Guddu Barrage. It was inaugurated by then Pakistani President Mohammad Ayub Khan near Sadiqabad. It has 14 units of a designed capacity of 1655 MW.This power station has two units of 110 MW that are of Czech origin Ruining since 1974 continuously and 2 units that are of Russian origin each unit with capacity of 200 MW it also contains units from Siemens with the capacity of 400 MW. There are also units from General Electric(USA) and of Chinese origin.Recently a new 740 MW block of Chinese origin have been added. The 14 units of this power station can produce almost more than 2300 MW. Muzaffer Ghar Thermal This power station with 6 units. Three Russian units of 210 MW each.Two Chinese units of 200 MW each a one Chinese unit of 320 MW.The total power generation of these three blocks is 1350 MW. Mangla Hydro Power Station I also visited Mangla Hydro Power station-Jetsam river which has 10 units with the total capacity 1200 MW. Real situation. Guddu Thermal Power Station has 14 units of which only 6 units are running at half the capacity. big power station have a large residential colony living all most 60 % of non employes out side peoples.The Muzaffer Ghar Thermal Power Station has 6 units, but the Russian units are running at half capacity. All these power stations have large staff that is struggling to keep very 3 units running usually at half the capacity. Gudu Thermal Power Station has such a large staff that they make up a significant part of the city. Only to be keeping 6 units up at half the capacity. Most of the staff is also busy in there own private business. This power station is probably the most corrupt power station in Pakistan. The power house does not have oil to run other units. The power house looks like a war zone. Mangla Power Station’s where the situation is relatively better with 10 units and 9 unit are running. In this power station there are 4 units of Czech origin and they are in very good working condition. USAID donated almost 157 million USD for the upgrade and rehabilitation of this power station. The goal was to increase the production by 35 MW in each of the unit. The US Ambassador visited this power station. The two Czech units with the capacity of 100 MW each will be dismantled and replaced by 2 units of Voith Hyde Germany. Power Station staff is good and cooperative and happy have the 157 million USD of USAID funds. Country Report Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif wants to integrate a 740 MW power station in Guddu but so far there has been no progress just like in the Nandipur case. To run this new Chines power station gas is not available but gas supplied to Siemens unit of 400 MW have already close to provide to run new 740 MW unit Nawaz Sharif has announced the inauguration of several power stations. They inaugurate power stations and also close down old running ones, just to show action. The fact is that not even a single MW of power has come online to the national grid. If you don’t take into account government propaganda the outlook stability of the power supply in Pakistan looks grim. It also provides a lot of opportunity. I think Situation will be worse in coming day . wrong promises not good planing No any management were Pakistan is going. These coal a big dream no actual any work had been don just slogan.and corruption.. Power station on coal any our slogan just an new dream.Power Station can not be converted on coal (were is coal??) It can take next 10 years. Imported coal (KOLOON KYY DLLALI MAA MUU KALLA) . Only small & medium size Hydro power units is the way out. But it also take 5 to 7 years. Azad Kashmeer . Prince Pakhtoon khwa & Northern Arias have total more than 700 sits( Heads) for small & big size Power house possibilities but actually Thermal station Mafia do not support this When there is Thermal power station coal & Oil there is corruption . Hydro Power station is very simple machinery less reception essay handling.
