On my walk today with Buddy we came across a pair of Canadian geese attempting to cross the roadway entering San Jose international airport. I freaked as they made their way into traffic, and no one stopped. As the cars swerved to avoid hitting them, I knew I had to act. At a safe moment Buddy and I ventured out into the street arms waiving to stop traffic. Luckily a bus driver saw what I was doing and stopped in the middle of the street. It allowed other drivers to follow, while Buddy and I heralded the geese towards safety. As Buddy spooked them they opened their magnificent wings full span taking flight back to the Guadalupe river, and safety from harm. It was an incredible sight to see and I was so relieved and grateful I took action rather than allowing something to happen to such beautiful creatures. As I returned to the trail I heard a horn honk. I turned to see the bus driver giving me the thumbs up sign of appreciation. Thankful to be in the right place at the right time. Ive walked this trail for more than a year. During that time Ive watched this resident flock of the Guadeloupe river. There were 6 mating pairs, who have hatched many gaggles of babies. Sadly this year Ive noticed were down to 11 I would be so sad to have that count go to 9... May my little flock continue to thrive, and deliver me such visual pleasure while I walk with my dog!!! Feeling so grateful....
