On my way back to Massachusetts yesterday, November 2nd, on a brief visit to PA I drove by the now closed Willow Grove Naval Air Station hoping the old Military aircraft that my parents once took me to see back in the 60s and the first jet aircraft, the Messerschmitt Me 262, were still there. Sadly, the ME 262 is now on display @ a military base in Pensacola Florida but I was pleasantly surprised and fascinated that the aircraft from WWI, WWII, Koren War and Vietnam conflict were still there (along with an A10 Thunderbolt). There was also an interesting museum on the property (now owned by Horsham Township). The history and displays within completely engulfed me and before I knew it 2 hours had gone by. I plan to visit again when I have more time. If you havent visited or its been awhile since you have I highly recommend a guided tour by one of the volunteers @ The Wings of Freedom Museum and taking the kids and grand-kids with you for a history lesson as to the sacrifices that were made for the freedom we now hold dear today. Please donate while there. You may have seen the F/A-18 Hornet on exhibit if youve driven by The Willow Grove Naval Air Station or Wings of Freedom Aviation Museum - DVHAA on 611/Easton Rd over the years, but you probably havent seen the F/A-18 quite like this! If you love Military Aviation history as I do then youll love this video taken from the inside the cockpit as these pilots perform maneuvers near the carrier USS Enterprise.
