On my way home from yoga this morning it dawned on me... Federalism really is dead. No one in congress will take the necessary steps to revive federalism because the states are dependent on the federal government to carry out their functions. The moment a state disrupts its relationship with the United States is the moment that many voters would turn on their elected officials because all of the sudden You and me would be effected. The SCOTUS, the legislature, and the president (the office generally not Obama specifically) have dismantled the original idea of a nation comprised of 50 independent sovereign states and replaced it with a federal government that has 50 different branches. So we have this fictitious idea of federalism driving politics, only the drivers seat is empty, the road is winding, and all we have left is the Supreme Court to say its crazy.
