On occasion, I will think of an old nursery rhyme or little rhymes - TopicsExpress

On occasion, I will think of an old nursery rhyme or little rhymes we recited while jumping rope. I always try to remember the words but usually I need help. Thats when I go to my favorite trusty search engine, Google, and I have never been disappointed. They are all there. I just had one of those nursery rhymes pop into my head. This Old Man. This old man, he played one, He played knick-knack on my thumb; With a knick-knack paddywhack, Give the dog a bone, This old man came rolling home. And then you go through it over and over until you reach he played ten. I then pondered about the word paddywhack. What in the world is a paddywhack? So, I Googled it and that took me to Wikipedia, another site I have found to be trustworthy and useful. Paddywhack is a strong elastic ligament or tendon in the midline of the neck of sheep or cattle which relieves the animal of the weight of its head. I also learned that It is eaten in several countries. It is high in protein (78%), fat (10%), crude fibre (0.7%), and crude ash (1%). The meat is taken from domestic cattle, the bison, African buffalo, the water buffalo, the yak, and the four-horned and spiral-horned antelopes. Dried paddywhack is commonly packaged and sold as a dog treat. I dont know if this little slice of trivia is something you will find useful. Probably not. But its kind of interesting for those of us who have wondered.
