“On ol’ Grandview, on ol’ Grandview, on to victory….” The Friends of the Grandview Public Library, in conjunction with the Grandview High School yearbook department, is offering individuals a rare opportunity to own the entire Grandview High School Yearbook Collection up through 2009. This collection contains 73 books – 69 volumes of The Zebra (which dates back to 1939), one volume of The Z-Bray (1938), and three rare volumes of The Blue Bonnet which dates back to 1909-10. “The Grandview High School Yearbook Collection would make a perfect holiday gift for any Grandview alumni,” Friends of the Grandview Public Library Board President Derik Moore said. “It is like opening a time capsule and revisiting great memories from the past.” Moore said all 73 yearbooks are included on one DVD, and each file is saved in PDF format. “All of the yearbooks – with the exception of the Blue Bonnet books – were professionally scanned,” Moore said, “and the contents are also searchable which makes it easy to find individuals by name, group, or organization.” The Friends of the Grandview Public Library board members felt that it was important to have all of the yearbooks digitized in order to preserve the original content for future generations. Also, the library plans to use social media to help fill in some gaps. “We are going to extract and post various photos from these books on the library’s Facebook page so individuals will have an opportunity to comment and share their recollections of the past,” Moore said. The Grandview High School Yearbook Collection is available at the Grandview Public Library, 112. S. 3rd St., Monday through Thursday from noon to 5 p.m. The cost for each DVD will be a donation of at least $35.00 (cash or checks only, please) Proceeds of the sales will benefit both the Grandview Public Library and the Grandview High School yearbook department. Those wishing to purchase a DVD by mail need to send a check to the Grandview Public Library, P.O. Box 694, Grandview, Texas 76050 and add $4.00 per shipping address to cover shipping and handling charges.
