On our first day in Yellowstone we got a close up look at a bison, - TopicsExpress

On our first day in Yellowstone we got a close up look at a bison, elk and mule deer. And I got a very close up look of a bear. Which is what Frank wanted....not I.... We came across a bear jam and Frank jumped out of the car as he likes to go get a closer look. I like to sit in the car with his wallet and keys. I drove up a little way and did a U-turn to be on the side of the road with the bear. I stepped out to look (as many others were doing) and a ranger with a megaphone informed me to get back in my car as the bear was within 50 yards! So I did, and drove back toward where Frank got out of the car. After a few moments I realized that the people on the other side of the road were taking pictures of me. Cute as I am.....I thought that was odd, and stepped out of the jeep to see what else they may have found of interest. Had the top of the jeep been down (and I am oh-so-very-grateful it was not, as I had an ever so slight sense of security with my soft top up but windows down) I would have been able to see the bear just beyond my passenger rear tire. These photos were taken under duress, so please excuse the quality. (Im not sure why the one photo is sideways. It is very possible that was the position of both, the phone, and I at that moment) The bear passed by my open passenger window and then appeared to be startled, and ran away. It was just moments later that Frank stepped out of the woods stating that he couldnt find the bear. Had he stayed in his seat, like a good boy, hed have been within five feet of a bear.
