On the 19th of September 2014, I called a press conference to announce the allocation for repair of drainage system in SS 15 commercial area. Also present were Wong Chen, Member of Parliament for Kelana Jaya, MPSJ Councillor, Mr. Chia Yew Ken (Ken Chia) and MPSJ engineers. This is a special project by MPSJ initiated by councillor Ken Chia after multiple site visits to SS15. Ken Chia stated that some parts of the drainage system in SS 15 commercial area have been broken due to multiple factors such as debris from the nearby LRT construction, tree trunks that have fallen into the drains, building slabs built over drains by business operators and poor workmanship of pipe installations mounted improperly in the drains done by business operators contractors. Hence, this special allocation and repair works are necessary to clear the blockages and for water to flow again in the drains. This project started on 10th of August 2014 and it is estimated to complete on the 2nd of November 2014. The total cost is approximately RM400,000. The repair works will include the drains at Jalan SS 15/4, SS 15/4a, SS 15/4b, SS 15/8a, SS 15/4g, SS 15/4d and SS 15/4c. MP for Kelana Jaya Wong Chen and I would like to congratulate Ken Chia and the MPSJ engineering team for working hard to find the allocation for this project to further improve SS 15, one of the most challenging areas in Subang Jaya. They also call upon all business owners, students and residents of SS 15 to cooperate and maintain the cleanliness of this area. MPSJ officers would need to monitor and take strict enforcement actions against irresponsible business owners and residents. I want the council to consider increasing the cleaning of drains from twice a month to weekly and also to double the rubbish collection from daily to twice a day (morning and night) in huge commercial areas such as SS15 and Taipan USJ.
