Patrick Odhiambo Thunder Basketball team Minutes Meeting started with a word of prayer from Rogers Mutai after a short discussion on how to go about the agenda Angela Luchivya as the team mangers representative was given time to explain the new League format and how it was reached at. Angela explained that a) The issue of change of league format came about after many of the teams complained that the league was taking too long and the KBF official was looking for a way to mitigate not honoring of league games especially from team that were far from each other geographically. b) The league format discussion started earnestly after the end on the 2013 league conclusion. A team mangers meeting was called although only 5 team mangers managed to show up. Another meeting was called this year 2014 where the league format was discussed and ratified only 13 of the possible 46 team managers showed up c) The new play format first of all added more teams to both premier and division 1 league from 12 to 16. Then the 16 teams each where split into western and eastern conferences in accordance to last seasons’s ranking. The conferences took into account the geographical proximity of the teams so that teams from far would not have to travel way out just for one game. After this explanation the captains deliberated and came up with these resolutions a) The team mangers had let them down by not attending and also informing their team members of the decisions made by the TM’s meeting. We resolve to put our team managers to task and to be more vigilant on making sure the TM’s meeting is attended with full representation. Furthermore many of us wanted to know what the quorum on the tea mangers meeting is constituted by, because 13 out of 46 is a much skewed number to make a big decision. b) We resolved to write an official letter to the federation detailing the suggested league format as follows, the league to be split in the same two conferences but instead of just playing home and away games in your conference, one cross conference game to be added for each team meaning all teams will meet at least once in the season. Furthermore the playoff games be reduced to 3 games in quarters, 5 games in semis and 5 games in finals instead of the 3 games quarters, 5 games semis and 7 games finals. c) We also resolved that as stakeholders of basketball in the country, players have been requested to attend the AGM on 22nd March 2014. So as to better understand and also put across favorable legislation for the betterment of player welfare such as the suggested league format, the ratification of the Kenya Basketball Players Association by the federation and others. d) We also resolved that fighting with the federation on the various avenues such as social media only served to derail the progress of Basketball in Kenya. We decided to take a more diplomatic approach and use dialogue in resolving long standing issues. e) Lastly it was resolved that such meetings should be planned often
