On the 9th of November 2014, Battir joined the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. In the same spirit as the event in Berlin, hundreds of white balloons were released into the air, carrying messages of peace and hope from the children of Battir. In Berlin the balloons traced the historic route of the Wall; in Battir, they followed the planned route of Israel’s Wall across the Battir landscape which was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in June 2014.
