On the basis of countless experiences that I have gone through, I - TopicsExpress

On the basis of countless experiences that I have gone through, I have been able to firmly establish that “there are always two sides to any story,” as the popular adage goes. This article makes some very bold claims, which I would be happy to learn whether or not there is any research that either substantiates/corroborates or debunks the findings in the article; the following are the main arguments, conclusions or findings in the article that I would like to get a second opinion on (this does not, however, mean that the other arguments, conclusions or findings in the article are not important – it’s just that the following are the most pressing, from the top of my head as well as immediately): (1.) Whether or not organic farming uses pesticides (i.e., synthetic and inorganic chemicals, as opposed to naturally-occurring, organic substances, e.g., animal dung, composted matter, etc.). In relation to this point, even if organic farming uses pesticides or inorganic chemicals (just like its converse, i.e., “inorganic” farming), follow-up questions that I would ask are as follows: a.) Are the very same chemicals used in both types of farming? b.) If the sets of chemicals used in both types of farming are different then are the chemicals used in inorganic farming more toxic than those used in organic farming or vice versa – between organic and inorganic chemicals, which type of chemicals leaves residues that contaminate crops, living organisms (including humans) and the environment – i.e., the soil, water and air – to a worse extent? (Between the chemicals used in organic and inorganic farming, which type of chemicals is more toxic?) d.) If the sets of chemicals used in both types of farming are the same then are the same amounts of chemicals used, per unit of produce, in both types of farming? (2.) Whether the genetically modified organisms that are produced in inorganic farming are more harmful organisms to those who consume them (i.e., the farm produce) than those produced in organic farming. (3.) In general, whether or not the consumption of genetically modified organisms is harmful to humans and other animals, which feed on these genetically modified farm produce. Unless I do the following, I am unable to derive answers to the foregoing questions: (1) Transform the foregoing questions to research questions and hypotheses (2) Conduct an exhaustive review of the appropriate literature and (3) Subsequently conduct requisite and appropriately rigorous research to address these questions/hypotheses. Unfortunately, I simply do not have the time, immediately, to answer the questions; besides, there must be folks out there who, due to one reason or the other, are in a much better position than me to answer the questions.
