On the creation of new local governments in Ekiti: Without much ado, let me state categorically that the decision and subsequent actions of Gomina fayemi to create more local government councils is undemocratic, subjective, intransigent and should be rejected by all and sundry for the following reasons: 1. The provision of our constituition on the creation of new local goverments is straight and clear. Section 8 (3) (5) of our 1999 constituition (as amended in 2011) vested the power of creating new local govts. on the national assembly with recommendation of the state govt. It is so disheartening that a democrat activist of the late 1990s like Gomina fayemi could decide to breach a very sensitive part of the constituition, understanding fully well that democray is based on constituition. 2. It should be remembered that in 2004, lagos state goverment also ventured into this same act following this same process, the unpleasant consequence is still fresh on the brain of many. If Lagos state with the highest IGR in the country can still severely feel the impact, what do we now expect of our dear state. 3. Who will be responsible for the finance of these new local govts? I believe every other counter reasons can still be despised if Mr governor can answer this question faithfully. Should we expect the fedral govt that knows fully well that fayemi has not followed the due process or the state govt that is still striving to fund her only university. 4. Lastly, I just keep wondering the level of misplacement of priority in this our part of the world. Out of the numerous setback our dear state is currently facing, should creation of new local govt be our exigent target. Thousands of Ekiti youth are unemployed, no industry apart form block and pure water industries, our IGR nothing is when compared with other states of the fedration. Pure misplacement of priority! What do we even expect from a governor who at the expense of untouched projects, decided to build a 3 trillion naira govermet house on top of a hill. In a nutshell, Governor Fayemi should think of better ways of making good history than just creating problems for the incoming admistration.
