On the eve of the vote for Scotlands independence I feel it is appropriate to watch the movie Braveheart, not for the movie (which contains its fair share of historical inaccuracies), but more for how far Scotland has come. Being under English rule and/or in the United Kingdom for nearly 700 years and now it comes down to a simple question: yes or no? I sincerely hope Scotland does break away from the United Kingdom, for many reasons to be sure, but the single most important is that the country will become a modern day symbol that all peoples can live free and govern themselves and do so without violence. Tomorrow an entire country can declare to the world that it has taken its future into its own hands without firing a single shot or spilling a drop of blood, an example this world should aspire to.
