On the fourth of July 2013 the American Corner Lamu hosted a series of events in commemoration of the 237th occasion of the American Independence Day .The events were preceded by a parade through Lamu town that brought together over 300 pupils from Mkomani girls, Stone Town Academy and Swafaa Academy. A lecture on the genesis of the declaration of independence by the founding fathers of the United States and the typical activities conducted in honor of the day was presented to the congregation at the Lamu fort auditorium by the coordinator of the Lamu Corner. The participants also had an opportunity of visiting the Islam in America exhibition mounted at the Lamu fort galleries .The pupils also recited poems on the mutual/ bilateral relations that citizens of the two countries continue enjoy. later in the evening the Lamu residents were treated to a video show at the Lamu town square on the observation of the American Independence Day and the Kenya Country Documentary .The audience was able to appreciate the benefits of a cultural diverse society and the gains of a solid democracy anchored in sincere patriotism for the general good of a unified nation.
