On the occasion of Tim Cook coming out: My honest-to-gosh initial reaction was, people coming out is still a thing? Upon reflection, this made me happy about my life and circumstances. I have a number of LGBT friends and neighbors who have been out for as long as I have known them...in some cases for many, many years, and who are able to live their lives in as-close-to-perfect happiness as anyone else. Its so normal to me and my perception of my community, that I dont even seriously think about alternatives. But of course, on reflection, my experience isnt universal. To whatever extent this is still a relevant thing to anyone, I hope that Tim Cooks public statements are positive and influential.
