On the opposite side of that spectrum a mans convictions can be impervious to temptation. We used to have this customer who was a WWII Vet. He was a medic. He was also a rabbi. He would come in every Thursday. Drop his wife off at the doctors across the street. Come in stare at the menu, shake his head and say I sure would like a ham and cheese sandwich. Ill just have a coffee instead. Every week. Same conversation. One day we found his obituary/ memorial notice in the paper. Turns out his unit got trapped behind enemy lines in France. His unit holed up in a barn for two weeks with no food except for... Canned ham, rationed cheese, and stale bread. He had to live off ham and cheese for two weeks. And after tasting the glory of salty pork for the first time in his life spent the next 50 years really wanting to eat it again but never touched it.
