On the second anniversary of the Murray Darling Basin Plan - TopicsExpress

On the second anniversary of the Murray Darling Basin Plan becoming law, the Australian Conservation Foundation has assessed progress in the Basin. It finds that despite the $12 billion spent on the Basin, current government policies may prevent us from achieving the Sustainable Diversion Limits needed to restore health to the system. Over allocation of groundwater is a major problem and the government’s preference for subsidising infrastructure is more than three times more expensive than directly buying water for the environment.
