On the weekend Gary and I spent most of our time at the Harbour Festival in L Shed on the Harbourside. We were fund raising for Bristol Museum by selling cakes drinks and second hand books with other volunteers. On the Saturday it rained but there were still crowds of people around watching the events happening in the docks. They sheltered under umbrellas-which they were glad of when the Pyronaut spouted out fountains of water to add to the downpour! We had a lot of people sheltering from the rain In L Shed,so we persuaded them to sample our homemade cakes and tempt them to some books-we did very well. From where we were we could see the much loved Matthew coming up the reach, and the Big Crazy Flyboarding displays, a sport that sees riders donning flyboards and shooting 15 metres up into the air.The weather brightened up in the afternoon and all of Garys chocolate button fairy cakes were sold, plus my banana cake and old fashioned seed cake along with many others. Many people had donated cakes so that by 4.30pm when it was time to pack up a lot of funds were raised. As we had only cakes to eat all day ,we spent the evening at Blue Ginger at Whichurch-well recommended for an Indian meal. The following day we again helped out at L Shed and it turned out to be a glorious day which brought in the crowds-in fact the Harbourside was heaving with visitors. We were selling bottles of water and cartons of fruit juice so we had a steady stream of people paying us a visit on their way around the docks. We managed to sell all the cakes and many books so the Museum has benefitted by a fair amount of money. Gary and other volunteers didnt have to return loads of books back into storage as so many were sold.As always we had lots of laughs during the weekend -The Friends are always good fun .
