On this Friday one year ago, Joe moved our youngest into his dorm while I welcomed students back for our first day of school. I will never forget the strange sensation of entering the building that morning as only a teacher since I had also been a PCA parent for 28 years. I half expected to see Tim, Kate, and their classmates all day long. I drove to Statesboro after work to see that Tim was settled and wondered how I would say goodbye. I found out when Tim looked at me after I urged him to come home for the night (He really did need that fan he had forgotten.) and said, Mom, Im ready to go. Somehow, knowing that I had done my job and that he had developed enough independence to embrace the change calmed me. I cannot say I didnt cry while I watched him walk back to his building and disappear through the door, but I can say that I felt at peace. For all of you mamas and daddies out there getting ready to let go, you are in my prayers. Its going to be all right.
