On this Throwback Thursday, I m taking time to honor my Grandma - TopicsExpress

On this Throwback Thursday, I m taking time to honor my Grandma Hansen, who died 16 years ago today (gees, has it really been that long). Grandma had six children, the sole daughter of whom was my mother. Her children carried on Grandmas love of education and giving back. Three of my uncles were in the Idaho Legislature, one was in Congress, another uncle helped start the poison control and paramedic programs in the state, and I cant even begin to remember all of the committees, boards, and organizations touched by the work of my uncles, Mom and their spouses. Furthermore, they did not do for others to be publicly recognized and so I will stop that thread. However, I will acknowledge what Grandma taught me: I share her love of books and baseball. She would read a book twice in a row to make sure that she caught things she missed the first time. In terms of baseball, Grandma told me about listening to baseball games on the radio and particularly remembered Ty Cobb. Also, I inherited Grandmas curiosity as I too like to understand all sorts of different information. I remember Grandma was trying to understand Einsteins Theory or Relativity and was glad to know that not many people did as she never really figured it out (and I have barely tried). Finally although she didnt get past the eighth grade, Grandma understood the importance of education and was the wisest non-diplomed/degreed person I know. Thank you so much, Grandma, for all you mean to me and so many others!
