On this date in 1977, three days after the release of Street Survivors: The band Lynyrd Skynyrd boarded a chartered plane to Baton Rouge, Louisiana which ultimately crash landed in a heavily forested area northeast of Gillsburg, Mississippi. Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, pilot Walter McCreary and co-pilot William Gray were also killed on impact. The other band members (Collins, Rossington, Wilkeson, Powell, Pyle, and Hawkins), tour manager Ron Eckerman, and road crew suffered serious injuries. R.I.P. Gone but never ever forgotten.
